A collaboration between global outreach consortium and polyclinic family medicine department’s women’s clinic

January is cervical cancer awareness month worldwide. This month is usually marked with subsidized cost of cervical cancer screening for women. This year was no different and sponsorship of 50gh cedis per woman was made available for 100 women in total Global Outreach Consortium an N.G.O. As a result of this the usual 86gh per pap test was reduced to 36gh per woman. Screening begun in earnest with conventional pap test from 11th January to 29th January between the hours of 2pm and 5pm daily.

Members of the team included Matron Hannah Braide , Abigail Lartey ,Portia Tamakloe , Dr Samira Bogobiri-for one week on rotation and Dr Ayongo Annan (Team lead).

Out of 100 women screened 94 (94%) results were negative for intra epithelial neoplasia . Out of the remaining 6 clients 2 clients samples were inadequate 3 had infammatory cells obscuring sample and 1 person had blood obscuring the sample. No sample was positive for premalignant or malignant lesion.

Overall the screening was successful and no major challenges were encountered.

Phase 2 of the sponsorship has also taken off successfully aimed at sponsoring 100 women with 6gh cedis each per conventional pap test reducing the cost per woman from 86gh to 80gh cedis.
